Our last meeting of the year is quickly approaching—Tuesday, Oct. 24. We will continue the tradition of having a pot-luck/cookout, and will once again have it at the Lovett Pinetum (Springfield). If you can get there early—5:00 pm or so, we will take a tour of the grounds and look at the interesting conifers planted there. There are also some natural areas, including a spring and cave. We will probably start cooking around 6:00 pm. Please bring chairs, beverages and a side dish to share. The Society will be providing hot dogs, condiments, buns, etc. Nick Baker will be there to show you around, etc. until I get there.
To get to the Pinetum, take US 65 North to Division St. exit. Turn right (east) on Division St. and continue for about 4 miles. Turn left (north) on FR 213. Continue on FR 213 for about 1.5 miles. The road will curve around to the east and our entrance is just past the curve. There is 8 ft, black ornamental fence surrounding our entrance so it is pretty obvious. The drive is concrete with conifer plantings on either side. Turn left (north) into our entrance and continue until you see the signs for parking. It is pretty easy. Also, if you type “Lovett Pinetum” into google maps it should find us and you can get directions that way.Share:
